At last! European champions! I know it’s not the first time, as Spain won this tournament in 1964, but it’s the first time I experience it. First time for anybody younger than… 44 for that matter. I think that, unlike in 2004, when Greece won the tournamente, Spain played the best football and one has to be proud of this team. It was a fantastic tournament and, for the most part, teams tried to play an attractive game. These are some pictures of the ensuing celebration in León. What a night!

It seems that an English TV channel called “Sky Sports” is encouraging British people to support Spanish National Team next June at the Football European Championship.
I think this is a funny video, but actually I don’t understand it at all. As every time that British talk about Spain or Spanish culture, they show the same things: Toros, flamenco y paella…. of course most people in Spain don’t agree, me too, but anyway if British support Spain, it’s OK…. Take a look at this funny video…. but the way… can you understand it?
Ok, here’s a teacher’s transcript of the video. I’m sure there’ll be a couple of mistakes or three:
Have your plans for this summer fallen through? Is the thought of June too painful to bear? Is your replica kit out of date already? Have your European dreams gone down the drain? Well, football fans in Great Britain and Ireland, do not dismay for there’s another way to Europe 2008? Yes, this summer emigrate to football España and make la selección your new national team. Say no to pie and yes to paella, goodbye to warm beer and hi to rioja. Forget Morris dancing, caber tossing, male voice choir and binge drinking. The Macarena is the only bit of culture you need to know. Yes, John Paul, it’s time to fight one. Let go of those three lines and let’s take on a cow, mister matador, go AOL from the Tartan to disco in good floor court and scram to the sweet Spanish love. Tabby sheepish Welsh boy, forget the valleys and hit the costas, paella hombre, you Cimru Casanova. No more Irish jig Mickey Flatley. Now Mr Maracas, señor flamenco. Yes, you love the black stuff, Patrick. Go on, let out your dark side. Swap those sticker book, boys. Rooney, McFatham and Bellany for Torres, Villa and Morientes. Healey and Keane out. Xavi and Fábregas in. Take out the pluses, no chaps, no wags and no need for a phrase book. Metatarsal in Spanish is metatarso and for once you won’t look stupid not knowing the national anthem because Spain’s doesn’t have any words but, of course, all the home nations make their championships. Traditions will be respected because Spain always mess up too. Say ole, support Spain and shout viva la liga.
